About
I am a Graphic Arist creating original textile and t shirt graphic artwork for the apparel industry. I find a lot of material in the world of vintage things- their colors, textures, and themes, suggesting palettes and concepts that trigger germs of ideas or suggest solutions to current projects.
I additionaly like the changes, patinas and degradation that the colors and surfaces acquire and undergo with age and exposure. This blog follows my trail as I scour thrift stores and flea markets and the ever increasing wealth of vintage resources online to find the holy grail of all creative types like myself-inspiration.
Many new trends emerge from the the experiments of creative early adopters with their thrift store finds. Many a designer from the world's design houses rely on dealers of antiques swatches and artefacts that service the industry or pore over the books in their libraries finding design clues in old surf photos or hawaiian quilts . The world of vintage artefacts is rich mining grounds for the development of ideas.
Since my primary interest is in the aesthetics of vintage things, I am not at all concerned of its rarity or authenticity or value- but only in its beauty. I am also not limiting the search just to apparel or textiles as the color of a decorative object or the subject of an old print or even the art direction of an old movie could just as easily provide the inspiration that I'm looking for.
I've qualified the word Vintage with All American primarily because that not only defines the hunting ground and geography of all my finds but also conjures up a certain kind of powerful, evocative and enduring aesthetic that is unique to this country and its culture and is a powerful influence in my own work.
